Chinese Hairy Crabs Plague Germany

From: 163.com

In China, hairy crabs are known as a delicious but expensive dish since the supply has dwindled over the past several years due to severe river pollution. However, a Chinese species of crabs is now seeing widespread growth in some of Germany’s rivers. There the clean rivers have provided good living conditions for these crabs to flourish, unfortunately causing a headache for local fishermen. World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)’s data show that these 8-legged creatures have so far caused losses of up to $80 million Euros ($102 million US) for Germany. Hairy crabs reportedly do massive harm to freshwater products, destroying fishing nets and dams. Local fishermen don’t eat these strange-looking creatures, but they are also opposed to killing them with chemical agents.

An effective solution did eventually turn up as local fishermen now sell these crabs to Chinese and Vietnamese families, Asian supermarkets, and restaurants. Such crabs sell for between 5 and 8 Euro ($6 to $10 USD) per kg. This is a great price compared to crabs from allegedly “pollution free” Qinghai Province, China being sold at 856 yuan ($135 USD) per kg. In addition Chinese businessmen have begun shipping these crabs back to China to sell and also breed.

网易辽宁省沈阳市手机网友 ip:I just returned from Shanghai where a small crab is sold at 66 yuan ($10.40 USD). My salary can only buy 20 crabs per month.

网易湖北省荆门市手机网友 : Even the creature with 8 claws is unwilling to stay in this severely polluted and corrupted land.

月经献给党:This only shows that the German environment is so great ! If such crabs are found in China’s rivers, they’ll disappear the next day — dead from pollution or being eaten by someone.

aadianzi: Obviously, crabs can predict their future!

网易中国网友 ip:What a shame! We average Chinese cannot even afford to eat them.

网易安徽省马鞍山市网友 ip:Only these German crabs can be called “Natural and pollution free” organic crabs. The quality of China’s farmed crabs is just lousy.

ydzykiss:Hormone-free, pollution-free German crabs are certainly better than the crabs of Yangcheng Lake (a famous crab brand in China)!

网易广东省广州市网友 ip:Now there’s one more lucrative tourist program in Germany, dining on authentic Chinese crabs.

庄户人家 [网易河北省秦皇岛市网友]: How happy the Germans are! We ordinary Chinese people never can afford to eat such crabs in China!

a547523517 [网易江苏省苏州市网友]:This, in turn, reflects China’s environmental pollution problem. It indicates that even the land cannot be protected well in China. What a garbage society, even small creatures cannot survive here.
